Background:
The Dresden Gigposter Festival Colored Gigs is the result of the commitment of Dresden screenprint artist Lars P. Krause, who organized the screenprinting festival together with a handful of art and cultural creators from Dresden’s Neustadt in 2009. Following the idea of concert poster festivals, Colored Gigs brings together two authentic art forms without which the last 50 years of pop culture would not have been possible: handmade music and elaborately designed screenprinted posters for international bands and music labels. Up to 3000 guests annually attend the exhibition event with integrated concerts, where artists from all over the world come to participate. Colored Gigs is not just a local realization of a concert poster festival, but a subcultural highlight in a city that is rightly known as a world-class city of art and culture, even though it is often reduced by itself or by others to its reputation as a “Baroque city.” The Colored Gigs Festival has made a significant contribution to the diversity of cultural and artistic forms of expression, offering modern and urban culture space and visibility in Dresden.

COLORED GIGS – URBAN ART: Striking art in new places

To link both art forms, the Dresden Neustadt is a suitable location, known for its diversity and openness. The festival partnered with GrooveStation Dresden, which, with its adjacent area in Katharinenstrasse 11-13, has been established since 2022 as a new UrbanArt hotspot in Dresden with international appeal. Murals and artistic graffiti are gradually appearing on the firewalls and walls around GrooveStation, connecting international UrbanArt stars with local players and presenting urban art to a wide audience.

In 2024, the “Urban Art Gallery Dresden” plans to include more major international collaborations as well as a stronger integration of local artists. The Dresdner Colored Gigs artists Anett Bauer (MUAH!) and Lars P. Krause (Douze Studio), who participate every year, are involved as project partners. During the Colored Gigs Festival, there will also be live art actions with all participating Colored Gigs artists. GrooveStation itself will become an exhibition venue during the Colored Gigs Festival, with a completely new presentation format designed to make both the poster art and GrooveStation as a location completely novel and experienceable.
