The exhibition features portraits of people from various countries who now live in Dresden and for whom German is not their native language. It showcases the city’s cultural diversity and highlights creative ways of dealing with everyday challenges.

Accompanying the exhibition is a new interview magazine that brings together all the portraits from past years.

In our projects “Dresden Speaks…” (2024) and “ANSPRECHBAR” (2025), we pricked up our ears and opened our eyes—on the street, in cafés, at the kitchen table. We’ve spoken with people who speak different native languages. With people who find it difficult to express themselves clearly. We’ve spoken with blind people for whom language is vital to exploring the world.

The ANSPRECHBAR exhibitions feature 24 Dresden residents, all of whom connect their own stories and experiences to their languages, whether they grew up in Dresden or moved here. In interviews, they share these stories and have each written down a proverb for us in their native language.
