How exactly does the Neustadt Art Festival work?

Imagine exhibitions, drinking coffee with nice people, concerts, antique flea markets, street painting, poetry and performances all at once – all in one weekend in Dresden’s Neustadt district.

Representatives of all possible art genres organize various events autonomously together with diverse venues.

Visitors of the festival browse through the program and create routes through Dresden Neustadt and beyond to get a taste of the art, music and all the abundance of ideas.

When does the Neustadt Art Festival take place?

On the last weekend of September every year.

What is the cost of admission?

Admission is free.

Art and culture should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial means! The Neustadt Art Festival is always free of charge for visitors!

What does the festival have to offer?

The easiest way to get an overview is to use our website archive. All current programs for the upcoming Neustadt Art Festival can be found in our program overview, which will be released in the summer of this year. Alternatively, you can use our app as well.

Who can participate in the Neustadt Art Festival?

The name and the location of the festival suggest that we mainly offer a stage to our local artists. However, Dresden Neustadt would never be as colorful and enchanting if it did not welcome people and their artworks from all over the world. Therefore: Absolutely anyone who has an idea and initiative can participate.

We can cover travel costs and similar financial expenses to a certain extent.

How can I participate in the Neustadt Art Festival?

Two important steps are necessary.

First you have to register. You can either use our participation form, or – what would be faster – you can directly use our “Buntes Brett” (notice board). Artists and venues who would like to participate are registered on this board.

So if you are a venue, feel free to scroll through all the artists, maybe you find someone who fits your space perfectly. The board is also updated regularly, so you can always find new exciting creative and talented people.

If you are an artist, the same method applies – feel free to browse through the venues. You might even find an artist you’d like to start a project with.

Since we are always looking for new venues, it would be awesome if you already have a place for your idea.

The second, probably more important, step is to contact the venue or artist that you are interested in.

In other words, you do the networking – we help behind the scenes and can give you tips or reach out our antennae to support you as best as possible.

What’s in it for me participating in the Neustadt Art Festival?

First and foremost, you get something invaluable: an audience and networking opportunities.
Depending on what art form you pursue, you can easily sell your paintings, CD’s, etc. at the festival. You will also be able to attract a larger audience and make new important contacts that will facilitate joint projects with other artists inside or outside of Dresden. You might even find new clients.
So if you like this idea, your participation will definitely be worth it!

What was that about the reimbursement of material costs?

Thanks to funding from the Office for Culture and Monument Protection of the State Capital Dresden, the Foundation Äußere Neustadt and the Municipal District Office Dresden Neustadt, we have a small pot of funds through which we can reimburse you for costs. Since the procedure is not the easiest, we have set up a separate page for this:

What do I have to do, if I already participate in the Neustadt Art Festival?

Since we create a program booklet every year to guide all visitors through the NAF, we obviously need to know about your plans. So we need a message (e-mail) from you in which the following information is recorded:

  • the name of your event
  • the type of your event
  • the location where it takes place
  • the start and end time of your event
  • a suitable photo for your event
  • a short description of your event
  • (optional) a short description of yourself
  • (optional) a photo of yourself
  • (optional) the name of all important & participating artists for your event.

The deadline is September 1 at the latest, so that we still have enough time to add your events to the program booklet.

All programs that are added after printing will be available digitally through our app, so don’t worry, even those that don’t make it in time will be integrated. 😉
