Ooh, what’s growing there? A little Neustadt Art Festival!

After a year’s break, we’re starting afresh. ‘Back to the roots’ is the motto: small, intimate, without frills or grand claims. From 25 to 27 September 2026, we’ll once again fill Dresden’s Neustadt with art and culture and marvel at the colourful hustle and bustle sprouting from the roots.

For it to sprout, we need spaces: Do you have a gallery, a back courtyard, an attic, a garage or a cultural café? Perfect! Then get in touch with us as a venue and we’ll connect you with the artists.

Do you have an idea, play an instrument, enjoy theatre, street art and poetry, or can you juggle with your feet whilst doing a headstand on a unicorn? Brilliant! Then feel free to get in touch with us about your art and we’ll connect you with the venues.

As well as connecting you, we’ll compile the programme and publish it on our website and in the app, and we’ll take care of the flyers and posters.

Let’s nurture this little seedling so it can grow anew. We’re looking forward to your art – and, most importantly, please spread the good news so that lots of people can enjoy this fun-filled weekend.

Corona-ridden, Lockdown-suffering, Art-deprived,

after we received the shocking news in February that the Bunte Republik Neustadt 2021 would not be celebrated as usual, we took a deep breath when the good news reached us: The Neustadt Art Festival 2021 will take place!

From September 24 to 26, we will fill the Neustadt with culture for the 10th edition in a decentralized and corona ordinance-compliant way. So together we are looking for old and new free spaces in Dresden Neustadt and beyond so that with your help we can create an arts and culture festival for everyone far off from commerce.

Do you play an instrument, sing, paint, solder, glue, dance, screw, drill, perform, or are creative in any other way? Do you have a bar, a studio, a club, a cellar, an attic, or a similar space that you would like to make available? Then use this uneventful time in your cubbyhole and think about what you have always wanted to create. The NAF crew will support you with the execution, connect you with other participants, and promote your event in the program, via the NAF app and the website. The press deadline for the program is September 3, the website and app will be updated until the start of the festival.

The Neustadt Art Festival has received funding from the city, state and district and will take place. Whether we welcome you digitally or live, only time will tell. Stay brave!

After a long time without culture, we are very happy to present and share art again. Getting back into dialogue, meeting like-minded people, and discussing with others is a basic need and we are proud that our small festival can fulfill this.

This is only possible with your help. Therefore, we have summarized the most important measures for you once again:

• Keep your distance, at least 1,50m.
• Where it’s not possible, wear an approved mouth-nose covering.
• Disinfect your hands, there are appropriate facilities at the locations.
• Observe the cough and sneeze etiquette (arm bend, etc.).
• If you have fever or cold symptoms, please stay at home!
• Keep to the instructions of the locations. If in doubt, please ask.
• Keep to the prescribed one-way streets.
• Keep entrances and exits open.
• Listen to the instructions of local officials.

If these restrictions are too strict for you, please stay away from the festival this year for the protection of others.

For those who prefer a face-to-face meeting, we have scheduled two real-life meetings:

• The first one is on Sunday, 26 July at 4 pm at Alaunpark (in the middle of Zentralweg and Kindergarten). In case it is raining heavily, we will meet at the Interrobang.
• The second meeting is on Sunday, 23 August, also at 4 pm, also at Alaunpark and here again, the alternative in case of heavier downpours is the Interrobang.
